Mastic Oil
Mastic essential oil, also known as lentisk oil, is obtained from steam distilling the wood and leaves of the mastic tree (Pistacia Lentiscus) and has
an earthy herbal fragrance that is similar to pine.
Mastic oil contains phyto-chemical compounds called terpenes, which give it incredible analgesic, anti-inflammatory, anti-microbial, astringent and expectorant
properties. Its an effective essential oil for treating colds, flu, allergies and bronchitis, and its anti-microbial properties and fresh scent also
make it a popular ingredient in dental and personal hygiene products.
Its vaso-constricting properties make it a wonderful oil to use topically to stop superficial bleeding, decongest the lymph, improve blood flow, treat
varicose veins and reduce swelling.
When used aromatically, mastic oil boosts mental energy and strength and is helpful during emotionally challenging times.
Directions for use
Mix 5 drops of mastic oil with a carrier oil and massage it into the skin to treat varicose veins, poor circulation, swelling and stagnant lymph flow.
You can apply some to the chest at the first sign of a respiratory infection to decongest and open the airways.
Add 3 drops to an oil burner or diffuser to kill microbes and deodorize the air, relieve respiratory problems, and enjoy the other aromatic benefits.
Add 2-3 drops of mastic oil to a cup of warm water to make a natural anti-microbial and breath-freshening mouth wash.
